Founded in 1985, the Chattanooga Bach Choir brings together many of the region’s finest singers and instrumentalists to perform the great choral-orchestral masterworks of Bach and beyond. Under the direction of David Long, the Choir continues to honor its rich tradition while expanding its repertoire through cantatas, major sacred works, chamber music, and collaborations that enrich Chattanooga’s musical community.

Salon Concert 1 will feature Rama Kumaran, Baroque flute, playing his program, Memoria/Gloria. Dante Alighieri frames the program, which begins with the first stanzas of “Paradiso,” set within a New Complexity piece — Descent from Parnassus — by New York-based composer Marcos Balter. A traverso program of C.P.E. Bach and Telemann follows, punctuated by Rama’s own solo fantasy on the first chapter of the Book of Daniel. Finally, he orates the same Dante verses, this time with translation, and invites a discussion to follow the program.
