Dear Friends of the Chattanooga Bach Choir and Orchestra:
After a period of regrouping following the pandemic shutdown, we are excited to announce plans for our upcoming concerts in 2023!
For 37 years, the Bach Choir has enhanced the cultural landscape of our area with memorable live performances of the magnificent choral and instrumental music of J.S. Bach. Under the direction of David Long, for the past 17 years, the Bach Choir has expanded its offerings to include a series of Cantata concerts featuring these spiritual gems in Bach’s repertoire. On our Masterworks series, we have performed great choral masterpieces including Bach’s Mass in B minor, Handel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s Mass in C; Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Fauré’s Requiem, Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil, and Duruflé’s Requiem, among many others. Now, we look forward to building on this extraordinary legacy and presenting our audiences with even more gorgeous music presented in the style that best suits Bach’s works.
The Bach Choir and Orchestra will present two concerts early in 2023. We resume our hour-long Cantata Series at Christ Episcopal Church on Sunday, January 22 at 5 p.m., with a program featuring BWV 111, which was written for the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany. Our Masterworks Series continues with a special concert presented in memory of Tom Wolfe, our dear friend and patron, at Grace Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 18 at 7:30 p.m. This concert will feature music that Tom loved and about which he had frequent discussions with his many Bach Choir friends.
