About the Program

Join the Chattanooga Bach Choir for an evening of radiant Baroque beauty featuring two of J.S. Bach’s most inspired sacred works: “Gott soll allein mein Herze haben,” BWV 169 and “Herr Christ, der ein’ge Gottessohn,” BWV 96.

Bach’s Gott soll allein mein Herze haben (“God Alone Shall Have My Heart”) showcases the warmth and expressive depth of the alto voice, interwoven with the elegance of the organ and oboe ensemble. The cantata’s opening sinfonia — drawn from one of Bach’s own concertos — sets the tone for a deeply personal meditation on devotion and divine love.

In Herr Christ, der ein’ge Gottessohn, Bach paints a luminous portrait of Christ as the Morning Star. With sparkling sopranino recorder lines and vibrant orchestral color, the music moves from contemplative grace to dazzling light, guiding listeners through themes of faith, struggle, and spiritual renewal.

Experience these masterworks performed with the Choir’s hallmark artistry and passion, bringing the timeless music of J.S. Bach to life in Chattanooga.
