Description

Join us for an afternoon in which the world of J.S. Bach is not merely performed, but interrogated, inhabited, and allowed to resound in all its structural austerity and emotional audacity. Chattanooga Bach Choir Concertmaster Sheri Peck turns the spotlight onto Bach’s writing for unaccompanied violin—music that has, since the 18th century, functioned as both a technical Everest and a spiritual proving ground.

Bach’s Sonata No. 1 in G minor reveals the composer at his most architectonic, its fugal writing a marvel of polyphonic imagination conjured from a single instrument. In contrast, the Partita No. 2 in B minor traces an expressive arc that culminates in the monumental Chaconne, a movement that has provoked centuries of commentary, awe, and exegesis—music that seems to enlarge the violin beyond its physical limits and to test the expressive boundaries of the performer herself. Sheri’s performance promises both intellectual clarity and emotional immediacy, honoring a tradition while making a compelling case for why these works continue to matter.

The event includes wine and light refreshments, offered in the intimate atmosphere of our inaugural Salon Series gathering. All proceeds support the Reneau Concertmaster Fund, which sustains the artistic excellence of the Chattanooga Bach Choir.
